#PTD23 Judges

We are thrilled to announce that artist, writer and curator, Black Country Type’s Tom Hicks will be joining us as a judge for the Paint the Day 2023 challenge at Newhampton Arts Centre, Wolverhampton!

Black Country Type is an ongoing photographic project. In his series of images he applies his unique aesthetic to the region, focusing on words, typography, handmade lettering and signs. He also photographs ‘types’ of architectural features, objects and the post-industrial landscape of the area. With Tom on our expert panel, we’re certain that this year’s competition will be more exciting than ever!

Judge 2

We are delighted to announce that our second judge for the Paint the Day 2023 challenge at Newhampton Arts Centre, Wolverhampton, is none other than Shaun Morris

Known for his unique approach to landscape painting, Shaun has been a contestant on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year and was shortlisted for the Jerwood Drawing Prize. He’s exhibited widely, including at the Surface Gallery, The Atkinson Gallery, and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Shaun has lectured in Fine Art at various universities and arts organisations across the UK. Drawing inspiration from the urban landscapes around his Birmingham home, Shaun paints scenes from everyday life, from Sainsbury’s car park to local bus stops.

Final Judge Announcement

The excitement continues as we reveal our third and final judge for the Paint the Day 2023 challenge at Newhampton Arts Centre, Wolverhampton – Lindsay Pritchard!

Lindsay appeared as one of eight pod artists on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year 2017. She is an active member of the Black Country Urban Sketchers whose aim is to encourage people to sketch en plein air in their local environment and is also a committee member of the Wolverhampton Society of Artists. With Lindsay joining our esteemed panel alongside Black Country Type and Shaun Morris, we have an incredible lineup of experts ready to evaluate your masterpieces!

Join us for #PTD23, kicking off at 9am on Saturday, June 24th and wrapping up at 11am on Sunday, June 25th. This event offers a unique opportunity to create a piece of art capturing a scene within three miles of the Newhampton Arts Centre using your preferred medium. The best part is, everyone is welcome! Take advantage of our special family discount and turn it into a fun-filled family day.
