Are you aged 16-24, curious about filmmaking, and looking to build the skills you need to shoot your own movies in your spare time?

CYT GEN22 Young Film Makers programme is designed to give you the perfect introduction to practical filmmaking. What better way to spend your spare time?  CYT are setting up 3 opportunities:

  • Script to Screen – film/video/broadcast production.
  • An Acting for camera programme
  • Introduction to Cinematography

 

When and where will the programme be delivered?

All these opportunities will take place at Newhampton Arts Centre (NAC), Dunkley Street, Wolverhampton, WV1 4AN.  There will be 2 phases. Phase 1 starting in April 2024 to July 2024. Phase 2 September 2024 to December 2024

  • 3 hour Cinematography Workshops will be scheduled on Tuesday 6pm-9pm at NAC.
  • Acting for Camera Workshops will be scheduled on Mondays 6pm-9pm at NAC.
  • Script to screen will be scheduled on Mondays 6pm-9pm at NAC

Workshops will be led by Industry Professionals along with CYT’s Project Manager. Participants are expected to engage in independent learning, practical exercises, and if necessary tutorials outside these hours.

Note Participants may be expected to work outside of usual times, including during weekends – depending on the individual production schedules of the films

Everyone involved in the programmes will be expected  to volunteer and help CYT produce a range of digital products . CYTs social media content. filming our summer shows, set up CYTs Vodcast, set up ALUMNI:CONNECT broadcasting a series of Q&A’s and Masterclasses with former members, CYT short films, music videos’

All 3 programmes will be FREE. Refreshments will be provided at each workshop. Expenses of £5 workshop attended.

All programmes are suitable for beginners, no previous experience required.

What will be covered

Script to Screen programme  will equip you with the fundamental skills in a variety of filmmaking production including factual programming,  visual storytelling,  screenwriting, camera operating, lighting and sound, casting, directing, crew roles,  post production, events management and promotion. In a small team you will produce one of our Gen22 films.  The programme culminates in a premiere of all 3 Gen22 docudrama short films.

Acting for Camera programme covers the core skills and industry insights that you’ll need to consider a career in film/tv acting, Storytelling in Acting, Script Analysis and performance, Subtext in Acting – Theory and Practice , Rehearsal, filmed Masterclass with a Guest Director, On-set protocols and practices, Shooting scenes Monologues and Duologues exercises, voice and movement.

During the programme you will have recorded a series of portfolio shoots – scenes and monologues, produced a self-tape, acted in a short film and acted in  at least in one of the 3 Gen22 docudrama short films.

Introduction to Cinematography & Editing covers the role of the cinematographer, how camerawork is used to visually tell a story, technical introduction to our camera and how to rig for each shoot, Introduction to lighting techniques, basic sound theory and practice, visual storytelling, advanced camera and lights.

Editing, introduction to industry recognised software provides a hands on insight to  the application. Sessions include: Importing media assets, editing video and refining, adding effects and transitions, audio and multicam editing.

This programme is very practical. You will be involved in supporting both script to screen  and acting for camera programmes at the outset by providing the cinematography role for each programme. You will be heavily involved in the  production of all CYT digital products. You will be the assistant Director of Photography on at least 1 of the Gen22 films.

Volunteers – are you aged 13-15, curious about filmmaking, and looking to build your administrative skills.  10 volunteers  are needed who will help assist the opportunity tutor and the project manager, supporting administrative & logistical project tasks. When not required to support project activity, volunteers can take part in the programme.
