Sophie Gilbert is a jazz singer currently in her fourth year of study at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Originally from Glasgow, she has been based in Birmingham for the past few years and regularly performs around the West Midlands area.
Her face may be known to punters here, as she sang at our Block Party in the New Horizons marquee at NAC in June 2024 with the blistering, joyous RBC Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra – a euphoric highlight of the year for everyone who witnessed the gig!
Sophie takes influence from both her love of jazz music and the singer/songwriter genre in her compositions and performances, and draws inspiration from Joni Mitchell, Cecile McLorin Salvant, John Martyn, Norma Winstone and many others.
Accompanying her for this gig will be superb guitarist Ollie Canham.
