”I am Sorry” – Film synopsis:

“I Am Sorry” is a gripping short film inspired by true events, focusing on the harrowing reality of domestic violence. Featuring young upcoming artist Shehani Perera as the sole actor, the film portrays the emotional and physical turmoil experienced by victims of gender-based violence.
The story unfolds with chilling authenticity, incorporating a “real audio recording” from an actual incident of domestic violence.
Globally, an estimated 137 women are killed by a family member every day, and in 2020 alone, around 47,000 women and girls were murdered by intimate partners or other family members.
Through its powerful narrative and raw performance, “I Am Sorry” aims to raise awareness and provoke a profound reflection on the impact of domestic violence, urging viewers to take a stand against this pervasive issue.

What Happened Next – Film Synopsis

I woke up, and everything was the same.
A routine etched in stone,
Each day a mirror of the last.
I moved through life on autopilot,
Predicting each step, each breath,
A life scripted, rehearsed.
 But one day, I stopped.
 In that moment,
the script tore, The predictable shattered.
Suddenly, the future was a blank page,
A mystery unfurling with every heartbeat.
For the first time, I faced the unknown,
And I would never know what happened next.

“I wrote this poem after my father was diagnosed with cancer in July 2023. Before that moment, our lives followed a predictable pattern, we knew our schedules, planned holidays, and anticipated tomorrow with certainty. But when the doctors confirmed my father’s cancer was incurable and could only be managed, everything changed. We lost the assurance that tomorrow would be the same.
From that day on, we lived with the uncertainty of not knowing what the next day would bring, questioning whether he would even wake up tomorrow.

This film captures the moment that shift happened in our lives, from predictability to the unknown.” – Diyodi Menon
