In a late change to this gig Thomas Marsh, who was to have played in the Juliane Deil Quartet, will now lead the session. Juliane has unfortunately had to pull out due to sustaining a wrist injury, which has left her out of action for eight weeks. All ticket remain valid.
Originally from St David’s, Pembrokeshire, Thomas is an up-and-coming bassist and composer, now based in Birmingham. He is influenced by a wide range of music from folk, rock, and blues, to all forms of jazz, including musicians such as Charles Mingus, Julian Lage, and John Martyn.
Having graduated from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2023, he has been going from strength to strength. Releasing his debut album What’s Wrong With Rain? on July 8, 2023, playing the Lava International Jazz Festival in The Azores, Portugal, and most recently having had the opportunity to record with his new collaborative project at Abbey Road Studios.
During his time at the Conservatoire, alongside being co-host of Jazz at The Ruin, Digbeth, he has had the chance to play with and learn from many of the greats of the UK and international jazz scene – as well as performing at prestigious venues such as Birmingham Symphony Hall, and the Cheltenham Jazz Festival with the Parabola Quintets.
“We feel that this musician has things to say, and we are already impatient to see the artistic direction he will take.” – Camille Dal’Zozo, (2023) ‘Lava jazz en essor aux Açores’, Citizen Jazz
